ASHON Supports AELP as Nigeria's Capital Market Thrives

The Association of Securities Dealing Houses of Nigeria (ASHON) has endorsed the African Exchanges Linkage Project (AELP), emphasizing its potential to enhance cross-border securities trading and deepen capital market integration across Africa. Sehinde Adenagbe, Chairman of ASHON, made this statement during the AELP Broker Activation Webinar.
He highlighted that Nigeria's capital market now accounts for approximately 33% of the country's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and serves as a key indicator of Nigeria's economic outlook. Adenagbe noted that the transition to a T+1 trade settlement cycle has significantly improved market liquidity, efficiency, and investor confidence.
He also pointed out that Nigeria has been recognized as the world's best-performing stock market at mid-year 2026, surpassing South Korea’s Kospi Index. Furthermore, the Investment and Securities Act (ISA) 2025 has fortified the legal and regulatory framework, enhancing investor protection and positioning Nigeria as a leading investment destination in Africa.
Adenagbe identified several critical success factors for the AELP, including efficient cross-border settlement systems and strong corporate governance.
