ASP, 4 other police officers detained in Lagos over alleged assault

Five police officers, including an ASP, were detained in Lagos following an alleged assault on a driver during a vehicle check. The incident, captured in a viral video, showed an officer slapping the motorist.

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, condemned the behavior as unacceptable and unprofessional, ordering the officers' detention and promising a thorough investigation. The Tactical Squad involved in the incident was dissolved, and a new squad was constituted to adhere to international best practices in policing.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer confirmed the arrests and detention, stating that disciplinary action would be taken swiftly and transparently after an orderly room trial. The Commissioner assured the public that justice would be served in the matter.
