Police probe alleged N3m extortion attempt by Tactical Squad officers in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command is investigating an alleged extortion attempt by officers from the Tactical Squad at the Onikan Police Station. The incident involved a resident, identified as X, who claimed that the officers tried to extort N3 million from him at gunpoint.

The incident reportedly occurred on a Thursday around 1 pm when X and a friend were driving from Lekki to Victoria Island for an event. X detailed the encounter on social media, stating that five armed officers intercepted them near the Link Bridge roundabout, forcibly removed them from the car, and handcuffed them.

The officers allegedly demanded the money, searched the car, and threatened to frame X as a fraudster or cultist. The police have launched a formal investigation into the matter, with the Commissioner of Police ordering a full probe and summoning the officers involved.

Police spokesperson CSP Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the investigation and assured the public of updates on the outcome.
