Nwosu Calls Assassination Attempt on Obi a Democracy Threat

John Chuma Nwosu, a member of the African Democratic Congress, condemned the assassination attempt on former presidential candidate Peter Obi, labeling it a serious threat to the principles underpinning Nigeria's democracy. In a statement issued in Awka, Nwosu expressed disheartenment over the attack, emphasizing that it undermines the belief in peaceful civil rights for all citizens.

He stated that democracy thrives when people can share differing ideas respectfully, without resorting to violence. Nwosu called on security groups to promptly and firmly investigate the incident to ensure that those responsible are held accountable.

He highlighted the importance of restoring public trust in Nigeria and moving past violence to adopt a political culture based on maturity, tolerance, and respect for democratic values.
