Edo Police Investigate Alleged Assassination Attempt on Obi

The Edo State Police Command has initiated an investigation into an alleged assassination attempt on Peter Obi, the Labour Party's presidential candidate, and others during a political event in Benin City. The incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday when Yunusa Tanko, the national coordinator of the Obidi Movement, was present.

According to police spokesperson Eno Ikodem, the attack involved suspected hoodlums who infiltrated the political gathering shortly before the event concluded at approximately 2:55 PM. The police responded to a distress call and arrived at the scene, where they found evidence of vandalism, including a plastic chair and a canopy arranged outside the event's secretariat.

Fortunately, no casualties were reported during the incident; however, one woman was reportedly injured during the ensuing stampede. The police have invited political parties to assist in the investigation.
