ASUU Declares Indefinite Strike at Plateau State University

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at Plateau State University, Bokkos, declared an indefinite strike following a Congress meeting on Tuesday, August 25, 2026. This decision came after the university management failed to satisfactorily address issues raised by the lecturers, despite a 14-day ultimatum issued on August 11, which expired without resolution.

ASUU-PLASU Chairperson Vincent Choji and Secretary Lomka Iliya stated that the management's response, dated August 18, did not adequately address their demands. Key issues include the implementation of the Contributory Pension Scheme, full implementation of the 2025 agreement with the Federal Government, payment of outstanding arrears from January 2026, and improved staff accommodation conditions.

The union also accused management of intimidating union leaders. The strike directive, approved by ASUU's National Executive Council, requires all members to withdraw from academic activities until further notice, with an appeal for understanding from students and stakeholders.
