ASUU Threatens Nationwide Strike Over Government Neglect

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) issues a 14-day ultimatum to the Federal Government, threatening a nationwide strike if demands are not met. ASUU President Christopher Piwuna criticized the government for neglecting public universities and failing to address staff welfare issues.

The union demands the renegotiation of the 2009 Agreement, better funding for universities, and the settlement of outstanding salary arrears. ASUU also called for an end to alleged victimization of its members in various institutions.

Failure to address these issues could lead to a total shutdown of public universities, impacting institutions like Lagos State University (LASU) and Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO).
