ASUU-LASU Declares Indefinite Strike Over Salary Issues

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Lagos State University chapter (ASUU-LASU), announced an indefinite strike action effective September 15, 2026. This decision was made after the expiration of a 14-day ultimatum given to the Lagos State Government to implement the FG/ASUU 2025 agreement.

The announcement was made in a notice signed by Comrade Thanny Nooem, Secretary of the ASUU-LASU Steering Committee, and Comrade Oluwaseun Babalola, its Coordinator. The union's congress held an emergency meeting where it reviewed the government's handling of demands related to the welfare of academic staff, including outstanding salaries and retirement benefits owed to retired professors.

ASUU-LASU accused the government of delaying resolution and stated that the strike would remain total and indefinite until all issues, including the full domestication and implementation of the 2025 ASUU/FGN agreement, are resolved. The strike is expected to significantly impact academic activities at the university.
