ASUU Issues Ultimatum to Lagos State Government

On September 12, 2026, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) representing Lagos State University (LASU), Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), and Lagos State University of Education (LASUED) announced a potential strike if the Lagos State Government does not meet their demands by the end of a 14-day ultimatum. This ultimatum, issued on August 31, 2026, calls for the full domestication and implementation of the December 2025 ASUU-FGN agreement, which includes the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance (CATA) and provisions for the welfare of retired professors.

Union leaders, including Dr. Olusegun Babalola, Comrade Grace Abimbola, and Comrade Murisiku Onigemo, criticized the government's inaction and lack of communication regarding their demands, noting that other states have already implemented the agreement. The unions warned that the ultimatum expires today, urging the government to act to prevent an industrial crisis.
