ASUU Shuts Uniuyo Over Salary Dispute and Agreement Non-Implementation

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) shut down academic activities at the University of Uyo (Uniuyo) in Akwa Ibom State over salary issues and the non-implementation of the renegotiated 2009 agreement. This led to the suspension of exams scheduled to start on August 26, 2025.

ASUU members protested nationwide, demanding fair pay and the fulfillment of agreements. Uniuyo lecturers highlighted the stagnant salaries for 16 years despite economic challenges.

ASUU at the University of Abuja also joined the protest, emphasizing the need for immediate payment of withheld salaries and the overdue implementation of renegotiated agreements, aiming to draw government attention to the plight of lecturers.
