ASUU Suspends Strike at Niger Delta University After Agreement

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Niger Delta University (ASUU-NDU) branch, has suspended its indefinite strike following a Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Bayelsa State Government. The strike was initiated due to the government's delay in implementing the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance (CATA) and Professional Allowance.

ASUU-NDU Chairperson Lucky Bebeteidoh announced the suspension during a press conference in Yenagoa, stating that the government agreed to commence payment of CATA and Professional Allowance from October 2026, along with the payment of nine months of CATA/Professional Allowance arrears and nineteen months’ wage award arrears starting January 2027. The agreement also ensures that no ASUU member will face victimization for participating in the strike.

Bebeteidoh expressed concerns over inadequate financial support for the university and the lack of staff accommodation, which affects the university community's productivity. He emphasized that the subvention policy is undermining the institution's operations.
