Gombe ASUU Suspends Strike, Sets Deadline for Agreements

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Gombe State University branch, has suspended its planned total and indefinite strike, providing the state government and university management until October 2026 to fulfill agreements made with the union. This decision was reached during a congress meeting on Friday, August 21, 2026, and was documented in a resolution signed by branch chairperson Mustapha Muhammad and secretary Aliyu Shelleng.

The congress reviewed a letter from the Gombe State Government regarding the implementation of a new salary scale for academic staff and a Memorandum of Understanding concerning the payment of outstanding arrears. The union resolved to suspend the strike to allow the government and university management to demonstrate their commitment to these agreements.

However, the suspension is conditional, with a warning that the planned strike will resume if the agreements are not implemented by the end of October 2026.
