ASUU To Take Decision On Nationwide Strike, Begin Protest Tomorrow

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is set to make a decision on a nationwide strike and will begin protests tomorrow. The union has instructed its chapters to carry out protests at university campuses' main gates, holding placards to highlight the challenges faced by lecturers.

A national executive member of ASUU stated that each branch will hold a congress where members will vote on the proposed industrial action. The outcome of these votes will be forwarded to the zonal coordinator and presented at the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting for a final decision.

ASUU members have expressed frustration over the lack of progress in negotiations with the Federal Government, particularly regarding a proposed loan scheme for university workers and outstanding arrears in revitalization funds. ASUU President Christopher Piwuna criticized the government for delays and warned of potential consequences.
