Breaking: ASUU to Embark on Nationwide Protests, Reason Emerges

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has announced plans to embark on nationwide protests to address outstanding issues with the federal government. The union rejected the government's proposal to have them act as guarantors for loans under the Tertiary Institutional Staff Support Fund scheme.

A National Executive Committee member expressed regret over the government's handling of welfare issues, which have led to disruptive strikes. ASUU believes that the current economic hardship in Nigeria is putting a strain on parents who are struggling to send their children to private universities.

The union is calling for all stakeholders in the education sector to work together to find lasting solutions and improve the country's tertiary education system. In a related development, academic staff at Lagos State University have also commenced a strike over unresolved welfare concerns.
