FG Assures ASUU No Strike; Unveils Major Education Reforms

The Federal Government assured that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) won't go on strike, emphasizing ongoing negotiations to address issues outlined in the 2009 Agreement. Minister Alausa highlighted the government's commitment to sustainable university funding, revitalizing institutions, settling outstanding salary arrears, addressing stagnated promotions, and resolving unremitted deductions.

Alausa also announced major reforms in the examination system, revealing plans for a gradual shift to Computer-Based Testing (CBT) by WAEC and NECO to curb malpractice and enhance educational standards. The minister disclosed that the November WAEC exams will commence with objective questions and essay sections until 2026, gradually transitioning to a fully CBT format.
