Tinubu Calls for Unity Against Xenophobia at ECOWAS Meeting

During the 69th ordinary session of ECOWAS held in Freetown, Sierra Leone, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu called on African countries to present a united front against xenophobic attacks in South Africa. He demanded a unanimous condemnation of these ongoing attacks, which he referred to as unacceptable.

Tinubu highlighted that Nigeria has already evacuated 1,490 citizens from South Africa due to these incidents. He emphasized the need for a collective response from African leaders and reiterated Nigeria's commitment to the newly developed ECOWAS Compact for regional integration.

The President condemned the recent violence against Nigerians in South Africa and called for a strong, unified message from the African Union. He also stressed the importance of promoting constitutional governance, rule of law, and regional security, while advocating for the elimination of trade barriers and the enhancement of cross-border infrastructure to facilitate economic growth and stability across West Africa.
