Tinubu Advocates Unity Against Xenophobia at ECOWAS Summit

During the 67th ECOWAS Summit, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu urged West African leaders to present a united front against ongoing xenophobic attacks in South Africa, which he condemned in the strongest terms. He highlighted Nigeria's role in evacuating 1,490 citizens from South Africa due to these attacks.

Tinubu emphasized the need for collective action against insecurity and unconstitutional governance, reaffirming Nigeria's commitment to the newly developed ECOWAS Compact for future regional integration. He noted that the compact represents a significant milestone in regional integration efforts and called for the promotion of constitutional governance, rule of law, and respect for human rights.

Tinubu also stressed the importance of eliminating trade barriers and improving cross-border infrastructure to facilitate free movement and create a conducive environment for business and investment across West Africa. He reiterated Nigeria's commitment to counter-terrorism cooperation and enhancing regional security.
