Court Orders Release of Sowore's Passport Amid Charges

On a recent ruling, the Federal High Court in Abuja ordered the release of Omoyele Sowore's passport, which had been seized as part of his bail conditions following his arraignment last year. The court, presided over by Judge Musa Liman, dismissed the cybercrime charges filed against Sowore by the Nigerian Police Force, stating that the prosecution failed to diligently pursue the case.

The charges, which stemmed from a social media post where Sowore allegedly criticized Kayode Egbetokun, the former Inspector General of Police, included 17 counts under the Cybercrime Prohibition and Prevention Act of 2015. Sowore has denied the allegations, claiming that the case is politically motivated.

The prosecution had sought an adjournment to replace its counsel, but the court upheld the defense's objection and struck the charges due to lack of diligence. Following this ruling, Sowore's lawyer confirmed the release of his passport, which was a significant development in the ongoing legal proceedings.
