Adelabu Critiques Discos for Investment Failures in Power

During a valedictory meeting in Abuja, Adebayo Adelabu, the former Minister of Power, raised significant concerns regarding electricity distribution companies (Discos) that have not fulfilled their investment obligations since the sector's privatization in 2013. He urged the government to critically review the licenses of these companies when due and emphasized the necessity of sustaining commitment to ongoing reforms in Nigeria's power sector.

Adelabu highlighted that while reforms may appear unpopular, they are essential for guaranteeing stable and efficient electricity supply to Nigerians. He made this call during the formal handover to the permanent secretary and charged top civil servants to ensure the ministry builds on the existing foundation in line with President Bola Tinubu's vision for reliable power delivery.

He noted that the challenges faced by the sector require deliberate strategic planning and emphasized the importance of civil servants and technocrats in guiding the leadership to sustain and build on achievements in the power sector.
