Atiku Abubakar Urges Tinubu to Reassess Security Strategy

Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President of Nigeria and a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), condemned the recent suicide bomb blast in Maiduguri, Borno State. In a statement from his media office on Tuesday, Atiku expressed sadness over the resurgence of terrorist violence, which he noted had previously been defeated.

He highlighted the increasing wave of killings affecting both soldiers and civilians, recalling the tragic memories of Boko Haram's activities in 2014. Atiku urged President Bola Tinubu's administration to review its security strategies, emphasizing that public confidence in the government's ability to protect its citizens is eroding.

He criticized the government's focus on political opposition rather than addressing the pressing security challenges, stating that the administration seems more invested in the 2027 re-election campaign than in confronting the realities of insecurity. Atiku called for an open-minded approach to receiving honest advice on security matters, stressing that dismissing such advice as politically motivated is unhelpful.
