Atiku Abubakar Challenges Tinubu on Subsidy Savings

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called on President Bola Tinubu to account for the funds saved from the removal of the fuel subsidy, particularly in light of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) threatening industrial action due to unresolved agreements and outstanding obligations with the Federal Government. In a statement released on Sunday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku criticized the government's justification for the subsidy removal, arguing that public universities continue to suffer from inadequate funding and infrastructure deficits.

He stated that if the subsidy removal was meant to free resources for critical sectors, then the government must explain where the money has gone. Atiku emphasized that the government has failed to improve public education despite claims of increased revenues and allocations to state governments.

He accused the Tinubu administration of applying different standards to ordinary Nigerians compared to powerful interests, demanding transparency regarding the resources generated since the subsidy was abolished.
