Atiku Abubakar Urges Tinubu to Sign Audit Bill Promptly

Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President and current presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, publicly criticized President Bola Tinubu for his delay in signing the Federal Audit Service Bill into law. In a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku demanded that Tinubu sign the bill within seven days of formal notification to the National Assembly.

He warned that failing to act within this timeframe would constitute a violation of the 1999 Constitution. Atiku referenced Section 58(4) of the Constitution, which requires the President to either assent to or withhold assent from a bill within 30 days of its presentation.

He expressed concerns that continued inaction would undermine public confidence in democratic governance and indicated that the delay sends a negative signal at a time when Nigerians expect stronger institutions for prudent management of public resources.
