Atiku Abubakar Critiques Tinubu Over US Fiscal Report

Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President and presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), criticized President Bola Tinubu's administration in response to a report from the US Department of State. The report raised concerns about Nigeria's fiscal transparency, stating that while the government made its enacted budget and end-of-year report publicly accessible, it failed to publish its executive budget proposal in a timely manner.

It indicated that Nigeria's budget documents did not provide a complete picture of government revenues and expenditures and highlighted discrepancies between the approved budget and actual financial performance. Atiku emphasized that the findings aligned with his calls for increased transparency and accountability in public resource management.

He noted the report's criticism of the Office of the Auditor-General for not meeting international standards and failing to publish substantive reports. Atiku argued that full disclosure of government finances is crucial for attracting investment and combating corruption.
