Atiku Abubakar Engages U.S. Lobbying Firm for 2027 Bid

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has reportedly hired the Washington-based lobbying firm Von Batten Montagu York L.C. for a contract worth $1.2 million. The agreement, signed on March 9, 2026, aims to strengthen Abubakar's influence in the United States as he prepares for the 2027 presidential election.

The contract, executed by Karl Von Batten on behalf of Abubakar and Nigerian politician Fabiyi Oladimeji, is designed to shape perceptions of Abubakar among U.S. policymakers and counter narratives linking the current administration under Bola Ahmed Tinubu to his campaign. The lobbying firm will facilitate meetings between Abubakar and U.S. officials, including members of Congress, and provide advisory services on policy positions.

The agreement outlines plans for engaging with congressional staff and the executive branch on issues related to governance, economic development, and U.S.-Nigeria relations. The contract is set for a 12-month period with payments scheduled in six installments.

This development comes amid speculation about Abubakar's candidacy and the challenges faced by the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
