Atiku, Kwankwaso Demand INEC Neutrality After Protest

On Wednesday, Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President of Nigeria, and Rabiu Kwankwaso, the former Governor of Kano State, criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for alleged partisanship during a protest in Abuja. The protest, organized by members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition, aimed to challenge INEC's recent decisions affecting party leadership.

Kwankwaso stated that the opposition would not tolerate any undermining of the electoral process and urged INEC to return to a path of impartiality and professionalism to ensure democracy thrives in Nigeria. Atiku, alongside ADC's national chairman, Senator David Mark, participated in the peaceful protest, condemning INEC's actions as a threat to democracy.

The ADC faction's grievances stemmed from INEC's announcement that it would no longer recognize a rival leadership group within the party, citing a subsisting court order. The protest sent a clear message that efforts to undermine democracy would be resisted.
