Atiku Abubakar Promises Education Reform for 2027

Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has made a significant promise to Nigerian students, stating that he will review the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) policy if elected president in 2027. He aims to reduce the cost of education and offer forgiveness for qualifying student debts.

This announcement was made by Phrank Shaibu, Atiku's senior special assistant on public communication, in a statement released on Tuesday. Atiku's commitment comes in response to criticisms from President Bola Tinubu regarding his economic proposals for the upcoming 2027 general election.

Shaibu emphasized that Atiku believes education should not burden young Nigerians with debt. He criticized the current administration for making education more expensive and providing loans instead of scholarships, describing this approach as "witchcraft economics." Shaibu asserted that a proper education policy should allow ordinary families to educate their children without incurring debt.
