Atiku Abubakar Promises to Reopen Nigeria's Borders

Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), announced his intention to reopen Nigeria's land borders if elected president in the 2027 elections. He made this promise while addressing supporters in a video shared by ADC chieftain Dele Momodu.

Atiku emphasized that the ongoing border restrictions have severely affected transborder businesses, leading to job losses among young Nigerians. He pointed out that Nigeria's northern states share borders with Cameroon, Chad, Niger Republic, and Benin Republic, making cross-border trade vital for the region's economy.

Atiku noted that many young entrepreneurs have gone bankrupt due to these restrictions, which he believes could exacerbate insecurity. He also committed to improving port facilities in southern Nigeria to facilitate better transportation of goods, stating that stronger infrastructure would reduce the time and cost of moving goods to northern states.

Atiku referenced his own experiences with shipping containers from Lagos to Yola, highlighting the logistical challenges faced.
