Atiku Abubakar Defends Against Obasanjo's Criticism

Atiku Abubakar issued a statement on Saturday in Abuja through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, addressing Olusegun Obasanjo's recent interview. Atiku expressed profound sadness over Obasanjo's vindictiveness, attributing it to personal resentment.

He stated that his opposition to Obasanjo's unconstitutional third-term agenda was a matter of principle, emphasizing that he prioritized Nigeria over personal loyalty. Atiku claimed that the struggle against the third-term agenda was about preserving Nigeria's democracy for future generations, asserting that history has vindicated him.

He noted that Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Director-General of the World Trade Organization, praised his economic management team, contrasting this with Obasanjo's attempts to diminish his contributions.

Atiku recalled his support for Obasanjo during his imprisonment and his efforts to aid his recovery upon release, underscoring the historical context of their relationship.
