Atiku Abubakar Demands Accountability for Fuel Subsidy Savings

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called on the Federal Government to ensure full accountability for revenues, savings, and deductions since the removal of the fuel subsidy, as petrol prices have soared to N1,470 per litre. Speaking through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku emphasized that the subsidy removal was intended to redirect resources towards education, healthcare, and infrastructure.

He referenced the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) records, noting that in June 2025, gross revenue was N4.232 trillion, with N1.818 trillion distributed. Atiku demanded a comprehensive reconciliation of revenues from 2023 onwards, detailing all deductions and their applications.

He also called for transparency regarding the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Development Fund and oil-related revenues, advocating for independent verification of financial records. Atiku compared current petrol prices to historical data, highlighting the disparity in domestic fuel costs relative to global crude prices and minimum wage levels in Nigeria versus the United States.
