Atiku Abubakar Criticizes Nigerian Senate for Rejecting Electronic Transmission of Election Results

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar strongly condemns the Nigerian Senate's rejection of the mandatory electronic transmission of election results, describing it as a serious setback for electoral reform and a blow against transparency and credibility in Nigeria's democratic process. Atiku, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, criticized the Senate's decision to retain existing provisions in the Electoral Act instead of adopting real-time electronic transmission.

The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, clarified that the Senate did not completely reject electronic transmission but opted to preserve the current system. Atiku emphasized the importance of transparency and reducing human interference in election results to ensure free and fair elections.

He called for modernizing Nigeria's electoral system to meet international democratic standards. Atiku's statement highlights concerns about the Senate's commitment to democracy and the need for a transparent and verifiable electoral process in Nigeria.
