Atiku Abubakar Backs David Mark's ADC Faction for 2027

Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President of Nigeria, disclosed his support for the presidential candidate that emerges from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) faction led by former Senate President David Mark for the 2027 general elections. This statement was made during an interview with DW Hausa that gained significant attention on Saturday.

The ADC is currently facing a leadership crisis, with disputes intensifying following the Independent National Electoral Commission's (INEC) announcement recognizing the faction led by David Mark. INEC has suspended engagement with either faction pending a determination from the Federal High Court regarding the case.

Atiku emphasized the importance of resolving the leadership issues within the party to prioritize unity before the elections in July 2025, when Mark's faction is expected to assume leadership. Despite the ongoing crisis, Atiku remains optimistic about the ADC's prospects, noting an increase in participation from young Nigerians across various political levels.
