Atiku Abubakar Critiques Tinubu's Governance Ahead of 2027

Atiku Abubakar, a prominent opposition figure and former Vice President of Nigeria, issued a statement criticizing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration, claiming that material gifts such as rice and spaghetti will not secure electoral legitimacy in the upcoming 2027 elections. Abubakar's remarks, made through his Senior Special Assistant Phrank Shaibu, highlight the weakening state of Nigeria's democracy and the growing fear among the ruling party regarding credible opposition.

He pointed out that despite the overwhelming control of the Tinubu administration over state power and resources, there remains visible anxiety about facing genuine electoral competition. Abubakar stressed that the Nigerian populace understands that infrastructural improvements cannot substitute for public trust and that attempts to manipulate the electoral process will not succeed.
