Atiku Abubakar Urged to Rethink 2027 Presidential Bid

In an open letter, Osuagwu, a former local government chairmanship candidate of the African Democratic Congress in Imo State, has urged former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to reconsider his ambition to contest in the 2027 presidential elections. Osuagwu appeals for Atiku to support younger presidential candidates, emphasizing that this decision would promote national stability and strengthen his political legacy.

He notes that Atiku has made several attempts to become Nigeria's president since 1992, but his continued pursuit of the office does not reflect the current political realities. Osuagwu points out the shifting political dynamics as the 2027 elections approach, stressing the need to consider generational change.

He warns that having a northern presidential candidate alongside northern party chairmen could recreate internal tensions, as previously witnessed with the People's Democratic Party, which could affect Atiku's historical standing.
