Atiku's Camp Warns Against Southern Zoning for 2027

Atiku Abubakar's camp, represented by his spokesperson Sanni, issued a statement cautioning opposition parties against the exclusive zoning of the 2027 presidential ticket to the southern region of Nigeria. The camp described the argument for a southern zone as self-defeating and intellectually dishonest.

They criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC) for retaining its ticket in the south under President Bola Tinubu and urged opposition parties to rethink their strategy. The statement emphasized that moral arguments favoring southern zoning would collapse under scrutiny and accused political actors of selecting memories opportunistically.

The camp referenced the 2011 death of President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua, suggesting that zoning principles should not be abandoned. They affirmed that southeastern aspirants deserve serious national engagement but warned against reducing aspirations to mere political transactions.

The camp called for opposition parties to focus on building a credible coalition capable of defeating Tinubu rather than adopting a southern zone narrative that could strengthen his re-election chances.
