Atiku Abubakar's Zoning Stance Criticized by Coalition

The Big Tent Coalition, led by Professor Utomi, criticized Atiku Abubakar for his inconsistent views on zoning and coalition-building in Nigerian politics. In a statement by Charles Odibo, they accused Abubakar of having a selective memory regarding the rotation of presidential power in Nigeria.

They highlighted that Abubakar, a significant beneficiary of zoning practices, previously advocated for northern leadership during his tenure with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). In 2014, he led a walkout from the PDP convention to demand that the presidency return to the north after Goodluck Jonathan's tenure.

The coalition pointed out that Abubakar's current opposition to zoning for the 2027 elections contradicts his past actions and undermines his credibility. They noted that since 1999, the north has held power significantly longer than the south, challenging Abubakar's claims of intellectual dishonesty regarding power balance.

The coalition emphasized the need for a consistent approach to political coalitions and electoral arithmetic in Nigeria.
