Atiku Abubakar Announces 2027 Presidential Bid

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President of Nigeria, has confirmed his candidacy for the 2027 presidential race, intending to run under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) platform. This move is seen as a last attempt to rally opposition against Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Atiku aims to support a power shift to the South by 2031 and plans to sponsor constitutional amendments to facilitate a rotational presidency. He believes that the 2027 election presents his best chance, especially given the lack of incumbents in the race.

Despite previous electoral challenges, where the People's Democratic Party (PDP) faced internal crises, Atiku remains optimistic. He noted the significant voter base he garnered in previous elections and highlighted the need for unity among opposition parties.

However, he faces challenges from other candidates like Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, who have their own support bases. The political landscape remains complex as various factions vie for influence ahead of the elections.
