Atiku's Lawsuit Against Tinubu Delayed Over Service Issues

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar's legal challenge against President Bola Tinubu's eligibility to run in the 2027 presidential election encountered a setback on Tuesday when the Federal High Court in Abuja adjourned the case due to the failure to serve Tinubu with the originating summons. Atiku's counsel, Joseph Silas, informed Justice Inyang Ekwo that attempts to personally serve Tinubu were unsuccessful and requested an order for substituted service.

Tinubu's representative, Senior Advocate of Nigeria Omosanya Popoola, offered to accept the summons on behalf of the President, leading to a disagreement over the need for a written undertaking. The court ultimately adjourned the matter to allow Atiku's legal team to regularize the service, rescheduling the case for September 28, 2026.

Atiku, representing the African Democratic Congress, is contesting Tinubu's qualifications based on allegations regarding a National Youth Service Corps discharge certificate submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission for the 2023 and 2027 elections.
