Atiku's Wife Leads ADC Women Push, Amaechi Warns of Political Exits

The African Democratic Congress launched a coordinated women's mobilization effort on Wednesday in Abuja, with party leaders delivering sharply contrasting messages about the 2027 presidential contest. Hajiya Aminat Titi Atiku Abubakar, wife of ADC presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, headlined the event by calling on female voters to reject vote-buying schemes ahead of next year's election.

She framed the appeal around household economic strain, noting that many families have withdrawn children from school due to cost-of-living pressures. Running mate Rotimi Amaechi, the former Rivers State governor, delivered a more combative address to the gathering.

Amaechi warned that another victory for President Bola Tinubu would effectively end the political careers of current opposition figures, drawing a parallel to how the APC displaced the PDP from federal power in 2015. He told party members that their political survival hinges on the 2027 outcome and emphasized the role women must play in determining the election's result.

Both speakers stressed the importance of grassroots campaigning beyond Abuja's political corridors. Amaechi specifically instructed party women to take campaign activities down to ward and polling unit levels, arguing that the ADC cannot challenge the ruling APC's dominance without penetrating local communities.

Hajiya Titi Atiku framed voting as a choice about children's futures, urging women to defend their electoral rights against manipulation. The ADC National Women's League conference also featured the unveiling of an initiative called ADC Women 1-10 Votes, a structured mobilization scheme aimed at broadening the party's female voter base.

The event underscored a deliberate strategy by the opposition coalition to center women's participation in its 2027 campaign infrastructure, positioning female voters as decisive in a closely contested election cycle.
