Kenneth Okonkwo Claims Attack on Obi Was Assassination Attempt

Kenneth Okonkwo, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), alleged that the attack on former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi was an attempted assassination carried out by government agents. This claim was made during an interview on Tuesday, where Okonkwo discussed the attack that occurred in Edo State.

He highlighted that the alleged assassination attempt was linked to prior threats issued by the current governor of Edo State, warning Obi against entering the state without proper clearance, as his safety could not be guaranteed. Okonkwo also mentioned the historical context of threats against opposition leaders, emphasizing the dangerous environment for political figures.

The incident coincided with a gathering to welcome Olumide Akpata, the former president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), which was reportedly marred by the attack on Obi's convoy, consisting of ten vehicles led by a pilot vehicle.
