AU Condemns Armed Attack on Niger's Airport, 13 Dead

The Chairperson of the African Union condemned the armed attack on Niger’s Diori Hamani Airport, which occurred near a military site. The attack involved gunmen and triggered explosions and sustained gunfire, resulting in the deaths of 13 people, including 11 defense security personnel and two civilians, according to reports from Niger's Minister of Defence.

The Chairperson expressed condolences to the victims' families and wished for a swift recovery for the injured. Furthermore, the Chairperson commended the swift response of Nigerien defense security forces, whose actions helped repel the attack.

The African Union reaffirmed its solidarity with Niger in its fight against terrorism and violent extremism, reiterating the Union's commitment to supporting efforts to preserve peace, security, and stability across the continent.
