AU Condemns Terrorist Attacks in Mali, Supports Peace Efforts

The African Union (AU) condemned the coordinated terrorist attacks that targeted several locations across northern, central, and southern Mali. In a statement issued on Monday, AU Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf described the attacks, which occurred on Saturday, as a serious threat to Mali and the Sahel region of the African continent.

Youssouf emphasized the persistent danger posed by terrorism and violent extremism, stressing the need for stronger collective action to enhance peace, security, and stability, ensuring the protection of civilians. The AU reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to supporting the Malian authorities and the region's initiatives aimed at combating terrorism and promoting lasting peace across Mali and the wider Sahel.

Youssouf expressed solidarity with the government and people of Mali, extending condolences to the families of those killed and sympathy to the victims affected by the attacks. Meanwhile, the Malian Armed Forces successfully repelled the attacks on several military positions, asserting that the security situation was fully under control despite ongoing battles against insecurity in the region.
