Auditor-General Uncovers N124bn Contract Irregularities

The Auditor-General for the Federation has identified contract and procurement irregularities totaling N124.12bn across various Federal Government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). The infractions include irregular contract awards, violations of procurement due process, and payments for unexecuted or poorly executed contracts.

The findings are part of the 2024 Annual Report on Non-Compliance/Internal Control Weaknesses, covering the year ending December 31, 2024, and were submitted to the National Assembly on July 17, 2026. The report indicates that N76.96bn was linked to irregularities in contract awards by 29 MDAs, with the National Population Commission accounting for the highest amount at N10.97bn.

Additionally, 15 MDAs awarded contracts worth N19.91bn in violation of procurement laws, with the National Agricultural Land Development Authority responsible for N14.70bn of this total. The report also highlights N27.25bn paid for jobs or contracts that were not executed or properly executed.
