Osun Auditor-General Calls for Stricter Financial Controls

The Office of the Auditor-General of Osun State, under the leadership of Kolapo Idris, has recommended the cessation of overhead funding to ministries that do not render proper accounts. This recommendation was part of the report on the accounts of the Osun State Government for the year ending December 31, 2025, presented at an audit forum in Osogbo on Monday.

The forum included heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, civil society representatives, and other stakeholders. Idris identified several issues, including negligence by internal auditors, improper accounting document preparation, fictitious expenditures, and abuse of approval processes.

He suggested enhanced training for accountants and internal auditors and emphasized the need for strict adherence to accounting standards. Idris also noted an increase in revenue from the Federation Account but urged for a more aggressive revenue drive targeting the informal sector.

He highlighted the need for better revenue capture from motor parks, where current practices do not comply with legal revenue sharing requirements.
