Australia Opens Work and Holiday Visa to 30 Countries

Australia has released the full list of 30 countries eligible for its First Work and Holiday visa (subclass 462), which allows young individuals aged 18 to 30 to live, travel, and work in the country for an extended period. This visa is intended to support an extended holiday, permitting work primarily as a means of funding the stay.

Notably, no African countries, including Ghana, Kenya, and South Africa, are on the list, indicating that citizens from these nations are not eligible for this visa category. The application process varies by nationality; for instance, citizens of China, India, and Vietnam must first complete a visa pre-application process known as a ballot and be randomly selected before proceeding with a full application.

Additionally, Australian authorities have cautioned prospective applicants that offshore applications may take several months to process due to the prioritization of onshore Working Holiday Maker visa requests. They advised applicants not to book flights or make travel commitments until a visa has been formally granted.
