Australian Open to Cap Cheap Ticket Sales in 2027

The Australian Open, organized by Tennis Australia, will implement daily limits on its A$49 ($34) “ground passes” for the first week of the main draw in 2027. This decision follows significant crowding and long queues that affected the tournament experience in January.

Tennis Australia anticipates stronger demand for tickets, reflecting the growing popularity of the event. Ground passes allow fans to access matches outside the major showcourts at Melbourne Park and have become increasingly popular among casual attendees.

The tournament saw a record attendance of 1,368,043 fans in 2026, during which Carlos Alcaraz won the men’s singles title and Elena Rybakina claimed the women’s title on the final weekend. The cap on ticket sales aims to improve the overall fan experience, addressing concerns raised by the spike in attendance in recent years.
