FG and AON Negotiate Fair Aviation Fuel Pricing Framework

The Federal Government (FG) and the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) are engaged in negotiations to establish a fair pricing framework for aviation fuel due to a current crisis affecting the sector. A meeting led by Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, is scheduled to take place in Abuja, with a 48 to 72-hour window set for parties to reconvene for further discussions.

This meeting marks the first direct engagement between the government and airline operators regarding the fuel market, which is seen as a crucial step towards transparency and cooperation. The discussions aim to openly address challenges, including allegations of price inflation and rising operational costs that are pressuring airlines.

The AON has expressed concerns that the current aviation fuel prices are unsustainable and warned that without immediate intervention, flight operations could halt within the next seven days due to financial constraints. The operators insist that fuel prices must reflect underlying market realities.
