The cost of jet A1 fuel has risen dramatically, with current prices reaching approximately N3,000 per liter in Nigeria, a 200% increase from the original price.

This surge threatens the airlift of thousands of Nigerian pilgrims to Saudi Arabia, as airlines struggle to maintain profitability amidst these rising costs. The financial burden on airlines could lead to significant fare increases for pilgrims, with the potential for the highest fare hikes in Hajj history.

Stakeholders emphasize that without immediate government action, including price regulation and support for fuel supply arrangements, the operations may face collapse. The situation is compounded by the removal of direct subsidies for Hajj operations, making it crucial for the government to stabilize fuel prices to ensure the successful execution of the Hajj.
