INEC Warns ADC Against Congresses Amid Court Order

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Amupitan, issued a warning to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) regarding their plans to hold congresses and a convention. This warning was prompted by a prevailing court order that prohibits such activities.

Amupitan stated that INEC would not monitor any congress or convention held by the ADC under these circumstances. He highlighted the leadership crisis within the party, particularly concerning the faction led by David Mark, as a significant issue ahead of the 2027 elections.

Amupitan warned that if the ADC conducts primary elections in violation of the court order, the results could be declared invalid, and the candidate with the second highest number of votes might be declared the winner, referencing a similar situation that occurred in Zamfara and Plateau State. He urged the ADC to maintain the status quo until the court delivers its ruling.
