ADC Rejects INEC's Claims on Congress Violation

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) issued a statement in Abuja responding to remarks made by Professor Joash Amupitan, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), during an interview. The ADC rejected INEC's claims that the party's planned congress and convention would violate a court order, asserting that such a position would distort the court's appeal directive and maintain the status quo.

The ADC accused INEC of overstepping its supervisory role and attempting to halt lawful processes, emphasizing that internal disputes within the party should not suspend its democratic functions. The statement highlighted that INEC's role is to monitor statutory triggers upon proper notification and that the party's internal processes do not depend on INEC's participation.

Furthermore, the ADC criticized the chairman's reliance on the doctrine of "statu quo ante bellum," arguing that it misapplies constitutional principles and undermines the ability of opposition parties to function freely.
