Dr. Awele Elumelu, born on June 23, 1970, in Lagos, Nigeria, is a physician, entrepreneur, and philanthropist committed to improving healthcare access in Africa.

She graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the University of Benin and has practiced medicine in Nigeria and the United Kingdom, including at Lagos University Teaching Hospital and Grantham District Hospital. As the chairperson of Avon Healthcare Limited and Avon HMO, she oversees health insurance and clinic operations aimed at increasing access to medical services in Nigeria.

In 2009, she founded a modest clinic that has since evolved into a comprehensive healthcare ecosystem, including hospitals and diagnostic centers. Dr.

Elumelu emphasizes the importance of investing in healthcare as a means to preserve human dignity and believes that the private sector can drive development in Africa. Her journey also includes completing prestigious marathons, which she views as a testament to resilience and discipline.
